This South American drink is vegetal and grassy in flavor, and the only herbal tea with caffeine. The finest we could find! Great on its own or in a blend. The culture surrounding yerba mate in South America is reminiscent of that surrounding coffee or tea in other countries, so it is a wonderful addition to our shop.
Traditionally yerba mate is brewed by filling the cup two thirds full of leaf and pouring 180 degree water into the cup, then drinking it through a bombilla, which is basically a straw with a strainer on the end, and resteeping the leaves many times. If you have tea equipment and not mate equipment you can brew it like tea, although you may want to use a higher proportion of leaf to water to get the traditional mate flavor profile.
