This tea lives up to the Gyokuro reputation; fresh and intense, vegetal and sweet. You don't need to have your friends ship tea to you from Japan any longer!
Gyokuro means "jewel dew" and ours is produced in the Asahina area of the Shizuoka prefecture in Japan. The leaves are processed in the same manner as sencha, but the growing process for gyokuro is tweaked: the tea plants are shaded from direct sunlight for three weeks prior to harvesting. This means the leaves absorb more nutrients from the soil and gain a higher caffeine content, while reducing the bitterness. This is a truly fine example of Japan's premier tea!
